The Ghosts In Our Machine

Compassion Over Killing

THE GHOSTS IN OUR MACHINE is eye-opening and breathtaking at the same time. Combining powerful videography with stunning photography, this documentary shines a bright light on the dark world of animal abusing industries, including factory farming. Viewers are taken on an illuminating journey behind the scenes of our society’s modern ‘machines’ where the suffering of billions of animals is purposefully kept hidden from public view.

The journey continues with beautifully told stories of individual animals. Viewers are compelled to personally connect with each one — discovering their personalities and sharing their pain, their fear and their joy.

Through captivating and sometimes haunting imagery, we’re shown the devastating effects related to the power of profit – as well as the hope offered by the power of compassion.

Ghosts is both life-changing and live-saving, and it’s message aligns with Compassion Over Killing’s mission to empower others to rethink exactly what – and more importantly who – they’re eating.

Animals who are caught in the ‘machine’ may not have a choice. But we do.  Every day, we can choose to support misery and suffering. Or we can choose kindness and compassion simply by leaving animals off our plates.”

Compassion Over Killing is a national nonprofit animal protection organization based in Washington, DC with a second office in Los Angeles. Since 1995, COK has been working to expose cruelty to farmed animals and empower people to choose vegetarian foods as a way to build a kinder world.

Relying on a wide range of strategies to achieve their mission, COK conducts undercover investigations, engages in a proactive legal advocacy, persuades major corporations to use fewer animal products and offer more vegan options, and much more.

COK’s undercover videos have resulted in criminal charges against animal abusers, a USDA intervention that temporarily shut down a slaughter plant, and the closure of a chicken and duck hatchery as well as national and international media coverage exposing millions of television viewers to the horrors kept hidden behind the closed doors of animal agribusiness.

Through successful corporate outreach, COK has also persuaded major food companies, including BOCA Foods, Morningstar Farms, and Quorn to significantly reduce or eliminate their use of eggs in various products as well as offer more vegan options.
