“It’s been said that when we know better, we can do better. The time for every human to know better is now. We believe we are on the verge of a major shift in the way humans view other animals. They are not objects or commodities. They are living, breathing, thinking, feeling individuals worthy of our care and our respect. Things they endure at the hands of humans are neither acceptable nor necessary. THE GHOSTS IN OUR MACHINE is a haunting film that will help to open a much-needed dialogue about the ways in which humans use other animals for their own purposes and pleasure. We have a responsibility to share this film and Jo-Anne McArthur’s work. That’s why Healthy You Network is bringing the film to Tucson, Arizona. We understand the power of its beauty and imagery to open the hearts and minds of those in our community and beyond. Liz Marshall has expertly and thoughtfully taken a subject many wish to avoid and presented it in a way that will allow us to reach those that would not otherwise seek this information on their own. We see this film as a game changer in the fight for animal rights and we wholeheartedly support Liz, Jo-Anne and the entire Ghosts team.”
The mission of Healthy You Network, Inc. is to provide education about the lifelong health benefits of whole, plant-based food to residents of Southern Arizona. These include benefits to personal health, the health of our economy, the health of the planet and the health of other animals. We recognize that people choose to adopt a plant-based way of life for a variety of reasons. For many, that reason is concern for the welfare of other animals. No matter a person’s reason for becoming plant-based, Healthy You Network strives to serve as a support network for those individuals through community outreach, programming, and our community Resource Center. At our Resource Center we offer a monthly plant-based potluck, lectures, food demonstrations and a monthly support group. We also have an extensive, free lending library of books and DVD’s. We have hosted various events in our community featuring speakers including Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. John McDougall, Dr. Michael Greger, Jeff Novick, MS, R.D., Rip Esselstyn, and ultra-marathoner Scott Jurek. In November 2013, we hosted the first-ever VegFest Tucson, now planned as an annual event. We are an all-volunteer organization composed of dedicated individuals working to affect change that will have a profound benefit to health, the environment and other animals.
